Pipe Trouble or Soil Trouble?
The field distributes liquid from the tank into the receiving soil. Crushed pipes or uneven distribution can overload one area. Soil absorption failure affects the receiving area itself. Inspection should establish the cause before repair work is defined.
Components That May Be Repairable
Depending on the design, work can involve a connection, distribution component, dosing pump or damaged pipe section. The remaining field must still be suitable for continued use. Utilities, access and applicable permits need review before excavation.
Trouble After Heavy Rain
A closed basin or saturated yard can limit drainage. A pipe repair cannot lower groundwater. Tell us whether symptoms improve in dry weather or return soon after pumping so the assessment addresses the actual cause.
Aeration Needs a Suitability Review
Field aeration is sometimes proposed for specific conditions. Its suitability and any required method approvals must be established first. It does not fix crushed pipes or high groundwater and is not a guaranteed alternative to replacement.
Protect the Repaired Area
Keep cars and heavy equipment off the field. Avoid deep-rooted plants near components. Keep roof runoff away without creating a problem elsewhere. Maintain the tank so solids do not keep reaching the disposal area.
Check the Approved Repair Scope
Check sewer availability and whether the parcel is in the Wakulla Basin Management Action Plan area or a springs priority focus area. Nitrogen-reducing treatment requirements depend on the location, lot and permit category. New installation, modification and repair can follow different pathways; have DEP confirm the scope for the exact address.
